Office of the Superintendent
Dear Susquehanna Community,
As we approach the start of another school year, I am filled with anticipation and excitement for what lies ahead. Our staff has been diligently preparing over the summer, and I am immensely proud of the collective efforts that make Susquehanna Community an amazing learning community.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome four talented new teachers, several new support and maintenance staff to our district. Their addition promises to enrich the Susquehanna Community experience, and I encourage everyone to extend a warm welcome to these new faces in our schools.
Before the school year has even begun, we are launching several promising initiatives:
- A robust new Website and Communication System utilizing Finalsite technology,
- Expansion of Mathematics instruction, Special Education instruction, and more STEM opportunities in the Inspiration Lab at the High School,
- New STEM Education Program, and the expansion of Special Education services at the Elementary School,
- New Mental Health resource—the Zen Den at the High School,
- Opportunities for Female student athletes to play Varsity and Junior High Soccer through a cooperative agreement with Blue Ridge SD,
- A brand new Junior High Football Cheer program at Home games,
- New Signs and Safety Postings on campus, along with a new LED Sign at the Turnpike Street entrance,
- Replaced the Air Conditioning Units at the High School,
- Moved forward with Safety and Security measures,
- Expansion of the Elementary School Playground
- New Scoreboards for Baseball and Softball.
We are excited to launch these new programs, opportunities, and resources in order to enhance teaching/learning, STEM Education, opportunities for our student-athletes, and to better communicate with the Susquehanna Community. Additionally, we are also investing in our arts programs by partnering with more NEIU-19 Artist in Residence projects, supporting the growth of the music and drama programs, ensuring that our students have every opportunity. We recognize the importance of arts education in developing well-rounded individuals to explore and excel in their creative pursuits.
This summer, our administration, maintenance teams, and office staff have worked tirelessly to ensure our facilities and schools are ready and welcoming. Students return to school on August 21st, with our staff having kicked off the year a few days earlier on August 18th. The Meet the Teachers night is scheduled for August 19th. The start of a new school year is always a time of renewal and excitement. I am confident that with our dedicated staff, supportive community, and exceptional students, this year will be another outstanding chapter at Susquehanna Community Schools. Let’s have an amazing school year!
Welcome back, Sabers!
Sincerely,
Superintendent Mr. Rushefski
