TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY 9A and 9B (1/2 CREDIT) REQUIRED Today's Technologies: This 9th grade course will introduce students to the following topics: structure and design, biotechnologies, graphic communication, and physical technologies. Students will be required to participate in activities ranging from creating CAD plans to evaluating the impacts of technology on the environment and human populations.
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION WOOD I: Woodworking on the 1st level is geared to the use of the various machines with special emphasis placed upon safety. This will be verified with safety tests on every machine used in the shop. All aspects of individual projects will be stressed throughout the completion of their projects.
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION METALS I: Metalworking on the first level emphasizes hand and power tool safety. Working in areas such as welding, foundry and sheet metal, the student will develop basic skills in these areas.
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION WOOD Adv.: Prerequisite, successful completion of Technology Education I. Since woodworking will prepare the students with many worthwhile skills that will be useful outside of the school environment we will emphasize various equipment, processes and finishes that may be utilized in the work place and or the home. This will be accomplished by using all the equipment that is in the shop to produce a project that is pleasing to both the eye and the mind. In addition to using the machines students will be required to make sketches of the machines labeling all the parts to gain a better understanding of each machine. We will constantly address every aspect of safety to instill a safe attitude that will endure beyond graduation.
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION METALS Adv.: The student will gain experience in the area of machining and machine process, including the metal lathe and milling machine. He will also become proficient in the use of the arc welder, oxy-acetylene torches, advanced sheet metal construction and accurate measurement techniques.
AUTO TECHNOLOGY I: This course will introduce the student to the different systems of the automobile engine including cooling, lubrication, ignition, and brake system operation. He will gain hands on experience in areas of routine maintenance, tune up procedures, troubleshooting and repair, as well as the use of the arc-welder and torches.
AUTO TECHNOLOGY II: A continuation of Auto I with a more detailed explanation in the areas of ignition, cooling and brake systems. Fuel systems and suspension will also be discussed. Routine maintenance to transmissions and transfer cases is also covered. Welding (arc & gas) will also be incorporated into the course.
DRAFTING TECHNOLOGY I: The use of the computer and CAD will also be introduced to the students to draw on the X,Y axis. The course offers hands on drawing in areas of: Layout, Isometrics, Lettering, Orthographic, Lines, Perspective, Compass, Sketching, Geometric Construction, Intersection and Development,3-View Drawing. The use of the computer and CAD will also be introduced to the students to draw on the X,Y axis.
DRAFTING TECHNOLOGY II: The use of the computer and CAD will also be introduced to the students to draw on the X,Y axis. The course will deal with all phases of Architectural Drawing and will include: Floor Plan, Dimensions, Basement & Foundation, Electrical, Elevations, Plumbing, Roof Plan, Room Layout, Plot Plan, Stair-step Layout, Pictorial, and Standard Sizes.
